Mother-Of-The-Bride Dress Shopping

Mother of the bride shopping can be just as difficult, if not more difficult than the wedding dress shopping itself. Mom’s often feel like they do not know what direction to go in with styles, colors, lengths, etc. They are going to be walking around all night talking with guests and being a part of many photos, so the importance of their dress is on their mind, but where to begin?

Having the initial discussion with the bride, and planning in advance will be key.  This decision should be well thought out ahead of time and not something you want to wait last minute to do. You always want to factor in alterations and if you potentially have to special order a dress. Some brides are much more specific than others, so that first discussion will be crucial to see where her opinion stands in what the dress needs to look like.

Keep in mind long-term comfort. This is something you want to fit your body in a flattering way, yet keep you comfortable to move around, help with last minute details, and maybe even dance in!

What color for the MOB?

-Should she be matching the bridesmaids or be within the same color scheme as them?

What styles does the bride NOT want to see?

-If the bride is leaning towards one style more than another, it will help narrow down the options when considering all other factors.

What trends is the bride incorporating in her bridesmaids dresses?

-Currently the most trending fabrics are sequins and lace. Whether that be full sequin or just a lace bodice, if the bridesmaids have that trending detail the MOB should consider whether it will be on her dress also.
